New Look cherry dress

The packet said easy so I thought I would try and make it in this...........

My lovely mother treated me to this fabric on our day out at Olympia sewing show back in march.
I seam to have bought too much as there is loads left.  I think it would be really fun to make into PJ
trousers.Tilly and the buttons has a great pair in her book which I been looking through day dreaming. No spend fun, cosy pj's ready for winter fab,

Back to the dress, not the easy sew it made out to be. I had fun and games with the zip but after a look on youtube and the help of a seam ripper it's in. How long it will last I don't know but it's in .
I need more practice with zips maybe Tilly's book will help with that to. There are some lovely dresses in there.

I love the overall look of the dress and think the fit is flattering, being pear shaped it's had to find dresses to fit my waist and hips. I did some alterations on the fit as I went along I found trying it on myself and MEME helpful. After so many changing room disappointments  I always worry things will be too tight on the hips.

So here I am, happy in my new dress already dreaming of the next challenge ..............

x-stitch so far

Hi,
cross stitch is something I have enjoyed for many years. I prefer to stitch in daylight, I find it much easier to see.  The daylight bulbs are good but not the same.

I have been working on some stitching for a family wall for the hall. I have already made up a button picture for our family name and have made a start on birthdate pictures for our children, my son and step-daughters. I wanted to have a common theme to run through the pictures so after much searching I chose All our yesterdays. Everyone who likes x-stitch will know these little figures straight away they have been popular for many years.

I have taken all 3 pictures from this book. Daniels picture is for a bookmark so I just carries on the width of the background to fill the frame.

I am using the to pictures of the girls in the sea for Kirsten and Molly's pictures.

I still have a way to sew but they are easy quick projects and fun bright colours to work with. I may do another for a wedding sampler, I like the 2 children on the swing (on the back of the book). As I say the wall is going to have different crafts on it so as I make things I'm setting them out to build up a sort of collage. I have a book with crochet butterflies that I would like to do something with in a frame. Different textures for interest is what I'm thinking .

What projects are other crafters working on I would love to know, please leave a comment.

Whatever you are working on today, enjoy

lipstick red cardigan

Hi

I just wanted to share my latest knit. It's an easy layer to wear as we come to the end of summer.
The pattern is from knitting magazine April 2010 . As you will see the pattern is for stripes but I wanted a plain knit to go with more things. I have nearly finished a cherry print dress that I wanted it to go with. I do like the idea of stripes maybe shades of blue to go with jeans? or a nautical blue and white with a red stripe ooooohh I like the sound of that!

Back to little red, it was knitted with stylecraft special DK in lipstick. In the flesh it is a true 1940's lipstick red, love it! Really soft cosy yarn and so affordable it's great for everyday wash and wear.

A few random shots of MEME my body double and  me in the garden ........
MEME wearing the dress that is nearly finished
Yes they are ladybird buttons, if you ask me why I will reply why not, it makes me happy

More information on ravelry, I go by the name of hairbear.
What is your favorite affordable yarn and why? I would love to know, please leave a comment.

Thanks for dropping in
